Grand opening of Hysitron's Applied Research Center in China during the International Workshop on Materials Behavior at the Micro- and Nano- Scale
International Workshop on Materials Behavior at the Micro- and Nano- Scale
Xi' an, China June 8-11, 2010
Organized by:
Zhiwei Shan (Xi' an Jiaotong University) Ju Li (University of Pennsylvania) Jun Sun (Xi' an Jiaotong University) Evan Ma (Johns Hopkins University)
On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to invite you to attend the third workshop that we are holding in China, a series started in Beijing in 2008. The title of this year' s workshop is "International Workshop on Materials Behavior at Micro- and Nano- Scale". Details of the workshop are summarized here:
Workshop Theme:
Driven by the miniaturization trend of structural and functional devices, micro- and nano- length scaled materials have attracted tremendous research interest worldwide. It has been discovered that the performance of these micro- and nano- structured materials can be very different from their bulk counterparts and can not be derived directly from those well-established theories based on bulk material behaviors. Despite those encouraging efforts, the whole picture of materials performance at the micro- and nano- scale is far from clear. This is mainly because traditional methods are no longer valid for very small sized materials. Therefore, the progress of this research area requires continuous efforts in exploring new concepts and methodologies, developing techniques for materials fabrication, microstructure analysis and nanoscale testing and measurement, as well as modeling and simulations. The main goal of this workshop is to bring together a lineup of well-known scientists and researchers to review recent achievements, discuss the current puzzles and share the visions for the future of advancing materials performance from the nanoscale, with an emphasis on in situ and dynamic studies.
